Operations Manager

  • Reporting To: Operations Director / Board

  • Salary: Negotiable depending upon experience / 39hrs per week / Benefits incl. Company Pension

  • Holiday: 25 days per full calendar year, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays

 

Uniform Engineering is based in Highbridge, Somerset and was established over 30 years ago.  It specialises in the manufacture of metal fabrications and components for a wide range of applications and markets.

The business benefits from deep expertise in producing bespoke metal parts developed from drawings supplied by our clients, using a wide range of CNC sheet metal machinery.  Over the years, Uniform Engineering has developed a favourable reputation within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory and defence sectors for precision work of an extremely high standard.

In February 2021, the owner and Managing Director retired, and the company was purchased by their largest customer, Monmouth Scientific Limited, who themselves are part of The SDI Group PLC. 

Now titled Uniform Engineering Limited and supported by Monmouth Scientific and SDI, we are looking to grow and expand the business, including a (potential) relocation next year to a larger facility locally.  As part of our ongoing plans, we have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to lead the company through this next phase of growth.

Summary Of  Duties:

  • To lead the day to day activities on site at Uniform Engineering Ltd

  • To take responsibility for all elements of the P&L

  • To ensure Health and Safety is at the core of day to day activities

  • Responsible for the direct line management of all personnel

  • To quote prospective works ensuring that margins are maintained at an agreed level

  • To manage stocks and report on these as required

  • To play an active, integral role in the control and supervision of all stages of production and other processes

  • To manage the organisation and development of all production processes

  • To minimise production costs through effective use of manpower and materials

  • To offer problem-solving strategies, to ensure all production processes run smoothly without any impact on the Customer

  • To manage spending against budget, and control costs in relation to changes in product design

  • To encourage the use of new techniques to improve our products

  • To ensure the quality of the products meet and exceed customer expectations

 


Key Skills & Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Previous management experience in a similar environment

  • Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility

  • A desire to expand and develop the business 

  • A desire to succeed and achieve personal growth in the role

  • Excellent project management, problem solving and multi-tasking skills

  • Willingness to work flexibly, with a positive and motivational outlook to each task

  • Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards regarding quality of work

  • Good presentation, numeracy and computer skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff at all levels

  • Ability to lead training sessions and workshops, and provide training and staff development opportunities

  • Oversee the training of staff to ensure they are able to carry out the work required and have the correct tools and resources to do so

  • Ability to make effective decisions whilst under pressure, and work to (tight) deadlines

  • Ability to prioritise works orders to meet a continuously changing delivery schedule

  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities

  • Overseeing of day-to-day running of production areas

  • Negotiating with suppliers to obtain the best prices
