Powder Coating Paint Sprayer

  • Position: Powder Coating Paint Sprayer

  • Reporting To: Operations Manager

  • Salary Range: c. £24k dependant on relevant experience, 39hrs per week

  • Start Date: Immediate

  • Holiday: 25 days per full calendar year, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays


Summary Of Duties:

  • Responsible for routine and preventative maintenance of all relevant operating tools and equipment, and isolating and reporting faulty or unsafe equipment, defective materials or otherwise

  • Preparing material for painting, by fully inspecting all surfaces to be painted, and removing existing finishes through chemicals, sand-blasting or other methods as and when required

  • Actioning a full range of specialised painting projects, including applying protective powder coatings to a variety of surfaces--- steel, aluminium and other shop-coated metal, uncoated metal, finished hardware, accessories and other miscellaneous metalwork surfaces as required

  • Knowledge of painting and spraying equipment and processes, including calibrating to ensure proper application with relevant tools and equipment for spray application and paint booth work, air electrostatic or air type spray equipment

  • Reviewing and adjusting paint gun settings and positions to apply powder paint to maintain consistent quality standards across all works

  • Correct analysis of paint viscosity and thickness, correct application of paint regarding flow and pressure monitoring of the paint delivery system, and checking specific areas where paint tends to clog

  • Changing replaceable parts as necessary, and setting-up and dismantling of paint equipment

  • Obtaining complete coverage, free from blemishes, runs, and sags while maintaining proper film build, on both internal and external surfaces

  • Performing coating repairs using hand tools and relevant touch-up paint application techniques and procedures, and applying top coat paints on previously-painted parts

  • Following adequate procedures for ‘masking off’ non-painted surfaces, using tape, paper or other materials, and ensuring adequately finished once removed

  • Maintaining accurate records of all work

  • Prepping and assembling fabricated parts and materials in line with Customer requirements

  • Inspecting finished painting work against quality standards and expectations

  • Meeting or exceeding production metrics as set by UEL

  • Moving, hanging and general handling of all relevant materials as needed and required

  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices in accordance with UEL requirements, ensuring immediate and surrounding work areas are kept clean and orderly, including all relevant equipment and tools

  • Fully cleaning down all work areas, tools and equipment post-paint, and ensuring the proper storage and disposal of paint products in line with H&S requirements

  • Ensuring all health and safety responsibilities are followed in line with Company expectations

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to odour, noise, dust and other airborne particles, varying temperatures, moving mechanical parts and vibration.  Relevant PPE will be provided by UEL.


Key Skills & Person Specification (including but not limited to):

  • Experience and knowledge of methods and techniques related to painting in specialised areas and work environments

  • Experience and knowledge of methods and techniques related to the safe use, storage and disposal of paint and cleaning products, chemicals, and safe clean-up techniques and practices

  • Willing to work flexibly, as dictated by the work flow, with a positive and motivational outlook to each task

  • Self-disciplined, able to work unsupervised and in a team environment, and take responsibility for accuracy & quality of own work

  • Ability to organise and prioritise works orders to meet a continuously changing delivery schedule

  • Ability to make effective decisions whilst under pressure, and work to tight deadlines

  • Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards

  • Personable, effective communicator, able to liaise with staff at all levels

  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities

  • Able to follow processes and quality-controlled standards of work, in line with Company procedures and guidelines

  • Willing to undertake other adhoc duties, tasks and general Company activities deemed necessary from time to time as we may reasonably expect or require (such as providing holiday and sickness cover in other Departments)
