Press Brake Setter & Operator

  • Position:Press Brake Setter & Operator

  • Reporting To:General Manager

  • Salary Range: c. £10-£15 per hour, dependant on relevant experience, 39hrs per week

  • Start Date: Immediate

  • Holiday: 25 days per full calendar year, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays

 

Summary Of Duties:

  • Fully responsible for the accurate set-up of all press brakes, ensuring timely and cost-effective production runs

  • Loading and unloading the press, whilst quality-checking all parts

  • Inspecting drawings and designs to enable the machines to be correctly set, measuring with Vernier Calliper, Protractors etc…

  • Preparing, setting, adjusting and operating the press brake machines to shape various types of metal, as required by product plans and production schedules

  • Finding the relevant program for each set up, and ensuring material is correctly adjusted for folding in line with drawings supplied

  • Adjusting the tooling and back stops, guards etc… for each part being formed

  • Inspecting metal during the shaping process, making adjustments as needed

  • Inspecting finished work for compliance with quality standards, Customer specifications and expectations, using precision measuring instruments where required

  • Meeting or exceeding production metrics as set by UEL

  • Maintaining accurate records of all work

  • Assisting with raw material ordering to ensure business continuity

  • Responsible for routine and preventative maintenance of all relevant operating tools, equipment and machinery, in line with current industry guidelines

  • Isolating and reporting faulty or unsafe equipment, defective materials or otherwise

  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices in accordance with UEL requirements, ensuring immediate and surrounding work areas are kept clean and orderly, including all relevant equipment and tools

  • Fully cleaning down all work areas, tools and equipment post-work, and ensuring the proper storage of equipment in line with H&S requirements

  • Ensuring all health and safety responsibilities are followed in line with Company expectations

  • Stay up-to-date with latest and relevant techniques, including equipment and processes

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to odour, noise, dust and other airborne particles, varying temperatures, moving mechanical parts and vibration.  Relevant PPE will be provided by UEL.

 

Key Skills & Person Specification (including but not limited to):

  • Experience and knowledge of relevant methods and techniques related to press brake operations

  • Willing to work flexibly, as dictated by the work flow, with a positive and motivational outlook to each task

  • Self-disciplined, able to work unsupervised and in a team environment, and take responsibility for accuracy & quality of own work

  • Ability to organise and prioritise works orders to meet a continuously changing delivery schedule

  • Ability to make effective decisions whilst under pressure, and work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, and perform repetitive tasks with consistent focus

  • Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards

  • Personable, effective communicator, able to liaise with staff at all levels

  • Competent Computer, English and Maths skills

  • Able to follow processes and quality-controlled standards of work, in line with Company procedures and guidelines

  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities

  • Willing to undertake other adhoc duties, tasks and general Company activities deemed necessary from time to time as we may reasonably expect or require (such as providing holiday and sickness cover in other Departments)
